Jacqueline Citherlet, President
I first learnt to play golf and become interested in the game because this was my son's dream and I wanted to understand what it is exactly that he goes through while he plays and competes in tournaments. I have been living in Mexico for 22 years and volunteered throughout all parts in golf tournaments in order to show him exactly what is involved in the organization of these tournaments that he plays in and understand the behind the scenes of how it all works. Mayakoba was the first major breakthrough for Mexico and the first thing I did when relocating to Playa del Carmen was to contact the offices and sign up to help out, I love that it is still relatively a small close knit family of people that work there all year round and make you feel part of something special. We see the same people returning every year which is also very special and it makes it what it is now, even as it grows bigger and bigger, we still feel what we do matters to them.
I was grateful that my efforts were recognized when asked to be President of the Volunteer program because it means once again I get to soak up the atmosphere and interact with people from all over Mexico, and the world who are attending one of Mexico's largest events. I am also a problem solver and love to be challenged and once tournament week comes around you never know what to expect and that is the beauty of it - Expect the unexpected! The motivation for me is to enjoy the golf and the camaraderie, but a lot of it is every hour and every minute that I commit to the tournament is making a difference in somebody's life. Think about it: Why you have volunteers who literally pick up garbage on the golf course and park cars and run the gates and staff the concession stands and work the practice range and marshal, its a significant savings that all goes back into the community.
And if charity isn't enough, there is always the chance that I'll get a great look at Rickie Fowler's latest ensemble.
John Marty, VP Golf Operations
It’s great to help Playa host an event of such magnitude and importance, not just in the sports world but injecting millions of USD into the local economy. I’m happy to be able to help the community gain donations from the PGA to put to good use with local charities.
David Sanchez, VP Scoring
I believe there are three reasons that make golf a fascinating sport.
It makes me grow, while facing the best and the worst of me.
It allows me to share great moments with friends and family, generating joy in my life.
It elevates my spirit by contributing with resources to causes for people in need through several tournaments.
These are the reasons why I play golf and with pleasure, dedicate the time required to assist in the Mayakoba Golf Classic, a PGA TOUR event.
Lizbeth Santoyo, VP Logistics
I love the tournament because it is inclusive, you do not have to be a golf pro to participate, it brings the family together, It makes us feel part of it because it integrates us as a society, it praises values!!!
I accepted the responsibility of being part of the Volunteers Council for having the opportunity to contribute with my two cents to the great work that the Mayakoba Golf Classic does to bring an event of this magnitude to our destination and that benefits all of us directly and indirectly, besides that I get the chance to share with so many professional people that I admire.
All PGA TOUR events are operated with the help of many individuals who donate their time to the tournament. Submit your application to be an Ambassador using our registration form.
Due to the nature of golf and the complex setup of a major golf tournament, hundreds of people are required to help with the operations from crowd control to scoring to helping the professional golfers in various ways. Learn more about the different positions and jobs available.
