More than Just Golf
The Mayakoba Golf Classic: More than Just Golf! Golf is Giving, Golf is Gourmet, Golf is Family.
While the game of golf and the PGA TOUR form the centerpiece of the Mayakoba Golf Classic, it is the culture and passion of Mexico and the spirit of Mayakoba that inspire us in everything we do. This year’s activities focus on three key pillars of Giving, Gourmet and Family to enhance the experience for all who attend and participate in the 12th edition of Mexico’s pioneering PGA TOUR event.
Join the party and enjoy all the fun and excitement awaiting you at the Mayakoba Golf Classic!
Central to the PGA TOUR is the goal of giving back to the communities where its events are staged—a goal the Mayakoba Golf Classic shares. Through 12 years of history, the pioneering PGA TOUR event in Mexico has been committed to supporting charities and foundations on a local, national and international level.
Since its inception in 2007, the Mayakoba Golf Classic has contributed more than $2.5 million dollars to a variety of charities and philanthropic causes, all as part of its effort to positively affect the communities of Quintana Roo, particularly Playa del Carmen and Cancun.
The relationships with the community and its charities does not stop at simply donating to their causes; every organization affiliated with the event participates in its volunteer program where a total of more than 600 volunteers donate their time and effort to assure the Mayakoba Golf Classic is a success.
In 2018, for the second consecutive year, the tournament will hold the initiative where the public will be able to help identify a special charity project from participating organizations, which is deserving of a special donation. Attendees and participants at the event can vote for one of three projects on-site at this year’s tournament. Be sure to look for the voting kiosk in the Pueblito!
Each year, the tournament also supports important local institutions such as DIF Solidaridad and the Red Cross of the Riviera Maya with important contributions to help their important work for the local community. Donations have included computer systems for vision-impaired citizens, hearing aids for the deaf, wheelchairs for the handicapped and elderly and much more. Once again, a group of PGA TOUR professionals will visit those in need to participate in this donation during tournament week!
No more than a decade since its inception, Golf PARa Todos remains the star project for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The program, known as Golf FORE Everyone in English, strives to create a fun-filled, diverse and educational program that teaches about the game of golf, its ideals and the premier professional golf event in Mexico - the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The program encourages active participation in the game as a fan and as a participant, and facilitates the integration of golf into the lives of all those within the community while creating a connection with a PGA TOUR event.
Monthly clinics, at no charge for participants, offer complimentary lessons, education on the game of golf, giveaways and so much more. Since 2007, more than 20,000 people have participated in the program. Golf PARa Todos also holds the Guinness Record for the World Largest Golf Lesson with 1,073 participants, a record set in 2011. Also, this year we will welcome back a Trick Shot Artist who will dazzle all in attendance on Sunday during the final round with amazing trick shots and acrobatics with his special golf clubs and crazy tricks.
Five years ago, the Mayakoba Golf Classic launched its “Behind the Scenes Tour” initiative. Since 2013, schools in Playa del Carmen are invited on Thursday and Friday during the first and second round of the professional competition to learn about what goes into making a PGA TOUR event happen and how the PGA TOUR pros go about their job of being a professional golfer. Beyond school children, any other youngsters who register at the tournament’s main entrance will be able to join the tours.
The Mayakoba Golf Classic brings some of the world's best PGA TOUR players to the Riviera Maya and provides a week of entertainment and competitive golf as well as enjoyable activities for the entire family.
The Mayakoba Golf Classic is broadcast live on Golf Channel in the United States, Golf Channel Latin America in Mexico and to more than 200 other countries around the world through the PGA TOUR's distribution network. Click here to learn when the broadcast will air in your region.
