El Camaleón Golf Club - Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, México
First Round Interview: Russell Knox
Q. Obviously great playing. What went well for you out there?
RUSSELL KNOX: Yeah, took me a few holes to kind of settle into my round, but when I did, I had six or seven very good holes. I hit the ball well, drove it in the fairway, and with lift, clean and place, I could be fairly aggressive. Par was good today. I holed some nice kind of medium to kind of long putts, which helped. Just when I kind of got out of position after I got off to a great start, I was able to kind of steady the ship and make a few birdies on my back nine. Yeah, it was a good day.
Q. You've had a lot of great finishes here at this event. What makes you play so well here?
RUSSELL KNOX: I don't know. I guess it's the tequila and tacos. Obviously I love the course, it sets up well for me. I mean, historically, my driving accuracy and iron play's been my strength, so that's kind of the key things that this course brings out in you. Yeah, I mean, if I can keep doing that, we should be all right.
Q. And it was windy and a little bit rainy today. Do you think being from Scotland helped you in those conditions?
RUSSELL KNOX: Yeah, I mean, I always kind of want it to be a little windy, I feel like I can flight my ball well at times. But it's so soft out here, it's the opposite of like links golf. No, I'm thrilled with that and look forward to trying again tomorrow.
Q. I know it's early, but what's your mindset heading into the next three days?
RUSSELL KNOX: I've been playing great golf at home. I know my game and my swing is progressing nicely, my putting is as good as it's ever been. So see how good I can get over four days. I mean, I know obviously if you're going to be there at the end, you've got to keep your foot down, keep playing aggressive, free swings and that's my main goal.
