Fotogolf Winner Unveiled!

Congratulations to "Par 3 – Cabo del Sol" for becoming the first winner of the inaugural Fotogolf contest presented by the Mayakoba Golf Classic in conjunction with IN Riviera Maya magazine.

The contest was a tremendous success in its first edition. More than 150 photos were received from golf lovers all over Mexico with photos from several categories. In the last two weeks, 12 finalists were selected and open for a public voting at www.MayakobaGolfClassic.com.

Daniel Viera amazed the voters with his photo "Par 3 – Cabo del Sol," a scenic picture along the Pacific coast of Mexico at a beautiful par-3 hole. With this shot, Daniel became the inaugural winner of the Fotogolf contest and earns himself a spot in the 2010 Mayakoba Golf Classic Pro-Am.

The competition impressed all with an ample variety of subjects related to golf shown in the photos from a beautiful aerial shot of a golf course to funny scenes of golfers to impressive wildlife shots of crocodiles and lizards on the greens and fairways of many beautiful golf courses. Some photos were characterized by the creativity of the photographers while others simply captured a beautiful and incredible scene.

The Mayakoba Golf Classic wishes to thank all those who participated in the Fotogolf contest as well as the more than 5,000 people who voted in the final phase of the contest these last two weeks.

Now, be sure to join Daniel and 132 PGA TOUR professional golfers here in Playa del Carmen when they tackle El Camaleón Golf Club! Tickets are on sale now by clicking here!

Congratulations Daniel!

Former World No. 1 David Duval Headed to Mayakoba

David Duval, winner of the 2001 British Open, will be making his first appearance at the Mayakoba Golf Classic when Mexico’s Only PGA TOUR Event returns February 18-21 at El Camaleón Golf Club at Mayakoba.

Duval, one of golf’s dominating players in the late 1990s and early part of this century, has won 13 times during his career. When he won the 1999 PLAYERS Championship, he replaced Tiger Woods as No.1 on the Official World Golf Rankings for 15 weeks. Earlier that same year, he eagled the final hole at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic to win the tournament and shoot a 59, becoming only the third person to tie the all-time record for 18 holes.

Tournament officials also announced commitments from Notah Begay III, Chris DiMarco, Brad Faxon, Steve Flesch, Charles Howell III, Tim Herron, John Huston, Jerry Kelly and Jesper Parnevik-all multiple winners on the PGA TOUR.

Other past major champions currently scheduled to compete are Mark Calcavecchia (1989 British Open), John Daly (1991 PGA Championship, 1995 British Open), Steve Elkington (1995 PGA Championship) and Todd Hamilton (2004 British Open).

"We have a great group of players who are scheduled to compete at this time and are thrilled to have David Duval join us for the first time," said Tournament Director Larson Segerdahl. "Fans are going to be able to see a lot of players who have won at the game’s highest level and some of the players who are up and coming stars on the PGA TOUR."
